"wait you days and nights long / your men come home no more"

The solid construction and earthy feel of Viking poetry has made it extremely popular for recreationists to try out on their own; however, it is not without its challenges - alliteration, metrical limitations, and rhyme all add up to make Norse poems as daunting as the warriors such verse celebrates. Jonathan has here constructed several drottkvaett (an alliterative style used for many of the sagas) and his growing level of comfort and skill in the style is quite clearly demonstrated.
